Stratford Richardson YMCA

Volunteers in our Stratford Richardson YMCA Afterschool program will be helping as a Reading Mentor in our Queen City Readers program. Queen City Readers is a program that is designed to help Kindergarten and First Grade students learn important skills that will help them become strong readers. In just one hour a week, tutors can serve two students. The only requirements to become a tutor are: - Proficiency in English (speaking and reading) - Must be over the age of 16 years old - Watch a 15 minutes of pre-recorded video training & a 30 Minute Child Abuse Prevention training online - Have a positive and encouraging attitude Volunteer Commitment: We ask volunteers to serve for 1 day a week for an hour, for 10 weeks. Our Fall program runs from October 7 - December 18 and our Spring program will run from February 3 - April 30. During your hour each week you will mentor two early readers for 30-minutes each.
