YMCA Camp Boomerang is an immersive summer day camp for children with diverse abilities held at our YMCA Hemby Center. Volunteers at our Camp Boomerang will assist help create a fun, safe and inclusive environment for campers of all abilities. They will assist with a variety of camp activities, including arts and crafts, sports, outdoor adventures, and team-building exercises. Volunteers may also support campers with diverse needs, ensuring they are engaged and included in all aspects of the camp experience. Their role is essential for fostering a positive and enriching atmosphere where every child can grow in confidence, make new friends and enjoy the magic of summer camp at the Y. ***PLEASE NOTE - This program takes place at the Hemby Program Center. To become a Camp Boomerang volunteer this summer, please fill out a Volunteer Application at: https://form.jotform.com/braceymca/2025boomerangvolapp. Once you are approved, you will then sign up for your in-person orientation and complete your volunteer requirements online including a background screening and Child Abuse Prevention training prior to the orientation.

***PLEASE NOTE - This program takes place at the Hemby Program Center (9760 Happy Valley Drive). Minimum Age: 14+. The Hemby Program Center/Camp Eagle Rock hosts summer camps each week, Monday through Friday. Volunteers will assist Adventure Camp staff to create a fun and safe environment with multiple tasks throughout their time at Hemby Camp/Camp Eagle Rock, including a variety of camp activities, including arts and crafts, sports, outdoor adventures, and team-building exercises. Morning and afternoon shifts available. Registration & Scheduling: 1. A volunteer should register for only the shifts they know they can work 2. A volunteer cannot register for more than three (3) shifts per week of camp. 3. Any scheduling conflicts that arise during the week(s) will be managed by the Brace staff. Additional Details: *Volunteers should bring items to keep them safe in the outdoor heat; including, but not limited to, re-fillable water bottle, sunscreen, snack. *Summer Camp volunteers receive a complimentary yellow Volunteer T-Shirt and are asked to wear it during their shift(s). *Volunteers need to ensure they are checked in/out of each shift.

Under the Community Development Department, the Harris YMCA offers a Digital Literacy program. We are recruiting Spanish speaking volunteers to serve as Trainers for this program, which meets once a week for six weeks per session.

The Harris YMCA offers English as a Second Language classes to immigrants and newcomers from our community. The program seeks to support the acculturation of the students and build community, while providing participants with the opportunity to grow their English language skills in a safe and fun environment. Volunteers can participate in occasional projects and/or serve as regular tutors for one-on-one support and/or small group classes. Once you register, the Harris ESL Coordinator will work with you directly to match your interests, skills, and schedules with the ESL Program needs. ALL volunteers work under the guidance of the Harris YMCA Community Development Director and ESL Coordinator. Volunteer training and all materials are provided. ESL Volunteers should check-in at the Harris YMCA Main building. Volunteer Program Expectations: *Spanish proficiency is helpful, but not required for all projects *Have a strong command of the English language *Possess a genuine interest in working with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences *Ability to guide introductory level students through a study of brief lessons covering Basic English grammar and vocabulary

For the period June 16 - August 20, 2025, the Harris YMCA will host summer camps each week, Monday through Friday, for Rising Kindergartners to Rising 5th Graders. Summer Camp Volunteers are needed to support the camp staff and camp counselors in implementing a wide variety of traditional camp activities, games, crafts, and all the various activities that make summer camp fun! Registration & Scheduling: 1. A volunteer should register for an entire week of camp; and for consistency, is asked to work the same 4-hour shift each day of the selected week. 2. A volunteer can register for more than one (1) week of camp and choose a morning or afternoon shift for the selected week. 3. To support our staff and campers, please provide a week's advance notice when selecting your volunteer shift(s). 4. Any scheduling conflicts that arise during the week(s) will be managed by the Harris staff. Additional Details: *An on-site Summer Camp Orientation for volunteers will be conducted each Monday of camp. The Harris Volunteer Coordinator will provide detailed information once a volunteer registers for his/her week(s). *If a volunteer is serving multiple weeks, he/she needs only to attend one (1) Summer Camp Orientation on his/her first week of volunteering. *Summer Camp volunteers receive a complimentary yellow Volunteer T-Shirt and are asked to wear it during their shift(s).

Volunteers assisting in a our YMCA Y Kids childcare program will help create a safe, engaging and supportive environment for children. These volunteers will assist staff with activities such as arts and crafts, sports, reading, and playground help. Volunteers will help supervise playtime, encourage positive interactions and ensure children follow safety guidelines. Their role is providing additional support fostering a fun and enriching experience for kids while reinforcing YMCA values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring.

The Lake Norman Y is looking for some outstanding volunteers to assist with various projects and events around the Y. Workday projects could include projects such as helping to prepare our campus for seasonal programs, planting garden beds, touching up paint or building picnic tables. Event projects include support for onsite community events like Live at the Lake, Community Days, Member Appreciation Days, and much more.

McCrorey YMCA
The Best Buy Teen Tech Center will be open to teens 13-18 during after school hours. Volunteers will help teens use various technology, design and complete projects and have fun while learning! The BBTTC is equipped with a full sound studio, 3-D printers, professional grade cameras an editing equipment. This opportunity will be located at the McCrorey YMCA in the new Best Buy Teen Center. As a volunteer at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, you will play a crucial role in fostering an engaging and supportive environment for teenagers to explore technology, develop digital skills, and unleash their creativity. You will work closely with Teen Tech Center staff to assist in various activities and programs aimed at empowering young people through technology. Volunteer Types: Drop In - Come spend time in the center and with the teens as your schedule allows. Workshop/Event - Come present to the teens on a topic that you’re passionate about. Mentor - Impact the life of a teen through mentorship (3 month commitment).

Volunteers will assist with traditional day camp activities, games and crafts or choose one of our Themed/Specialty Camps where you can share your passion for science, super heroes, fairy tales and more! As part of volunteering for summer camps, volunteers are required to volunteer for the entire week of camp, with the same camp and for the same 4-hour shift each day.

At the Morrison Y, we believe young people can benefit from creative outlets that encourage self-expression and discovery. We offer an extensive range of exciting programs at the Morrison Y Art Studio, the Ballantyne Arts Center and our teaching kitchen. Volunteers will assist with presenting the curriculum that is in place for the various aspects of our Arts Program, including regular classes and summer camps.

Volunteers will assist with traditional day camp activities, games and crafts or choose one of our Themed/Specialty Camps where you can share your passion for science, super heroes, fairy tales and more! The volunteer will assist in creating a fun, safe and engaging summer camp experience. Tasks may include helping with breakfast and lunch distribution, engaging with campers during activities, assisting during transitions between sessions, and providing general support to staff as needed. Volunteers will be paired with a specific camp group or rotate based on daily needs. Volunteers are limited to a maximum of 4 hours of volunteer service per day.

The YMCA Central Region Sports project will encompass the following YMCA Centers: Harris, Simmons, & Stratford Richardson. Volunteers are an integral part of the YMCA Youth Sports Program. To be frank – we can’t do it without you! From coaching to team communication and coordination, we need people just like you to help us teach sportsmanship, teamwork and game fundamentals. Not feeling like an expert in your child’s favorite sport? No problem at all! We’ve done this for over 150 years and have tons of resources to share with you to help you feel more comfortable. This commitment is roughly two hours a week and includes a one hour practice during the week in the evening and a one hour game on Saturdays. The season will last for 8 weeks and include 7 games. If you are interested in coaching this upcoming season for our Central Region, please select the position you wish to coach below. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has partnered with Nourish Up in Charlotte to help distribute food to our communities in need. Our Pop-up Food Share events occur during the week at some of our local centers and involve taking large amounts of donated food, breaking them up into individual boxes and then passing them out to cars as they drive through the line. These opportunities are perfect for groups of 15 or less and make a great team building activity. To be frank – we can’t do it without you! From coaching to team communication and coordination, we need people just like you to help us teach sportsmanship, teamwork and game fundamentals. Not feeling like an expert in your child’s favorite sport? No problem at all! We’ve done this for over 150 years and have tons of resources to share with you to help you feel more comfortable. During our Spring, Fall and Winter seasons the commitment is roughly two hours a week and includes a one hour practice during the week in the evening and a one hour game on Saturday's. The season will last for 8 weeks and include 7 games. During the summer sprint season, the commitment is roughly an hour a week on Friday evenings for 5 weeks.
